Nomads fans threaten me, says Malunga

Former Mighty Wanderers main supporters committee chairperson Yona Malunga claims to have been tipped off by well-wishers that some of the team’s supporters are planning to physically confront him.

This comes days after he declared in an interview with Matindi Radio Station last week that Nomads’ poor run would continue because he was chased by some panga-wielding fans at Wanderers Club, months ago.

“I have been tipped that some fans, whom I believe have been sent by a top club official are planning to attack me, but I am not moved, I will deal with them,” said Malunga.

Malunga said: “I will report the issue to the police. Moti pano ndikupita ku region kuti ndikafotokoze kuti pali anthu omwe afuna kundipanga upandu (I am going to the Regional Police Office to report that some people are planning to attack me).”

He said the problem is that a few top officials are treating some previous officials as enemies.

“We need to unite for the good of the team, so that together we can find solutions to the club’s poor run, or else they must all resign because the team is not performing and yet people want results,” said Malunga.

But the club’s chairperson George Chamangwana said he could not dignify Malunga’s unfounded allegations by responding.

“All I can say is that he had better be careful with what he says because he is provoking some fans who are angry and we’ll not be answerable,” said Chamangwana.

Soon after the 2-0 loss to Big Bullets on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium, a group of Wanderers fans chanted: “Ayona akutilakwira!”

The club’s supporters committee secretary Paul Mphepo said it is time Malunga accepted the harsh reality that he is no longer in the team’s setup and, should therefore, mind his own business.

“He is a mere fan now and if he has concerns, there are procedures that should be followed and not through the media,” said Mphepo.
