Nomads survive Chiradzulu Utd scare
Minnows Chiradzulu United on Tuesday bowed out of the Presidential Cup after going down 2-0 to Mighty Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium in the commercial city of Blantyre.
The toast of the afternoon in the blue side of town was striker Anthony Banda who struck a goal in each half and qualified the Nomads to the round of 16.
The Chiradzulu side dazzled the Nomads with a vintage show, particularly from their central midfielder Mike Chitani whom Nomads chairperson George Chamangwana said they will approach for trials.
Chiradzulu United had a chance in the 14th minute, but James Kalemera missed from close range.
The minnows displayed strong resistance for the better part of the first-half and as time ticked on, the stadium was full of anxiety.
But the Chiradzulu side succumbed to pressure in the 39th minute when Banda drew first blood with a simple finish.
The Nomads stepped up the tempo in the second-half, resulting in Banda claiming the second goal after 60 minutes.
Chiradzulu coach Francis Malunguza said despite the loss, he was proud of his charges’ performance.
“We are out, but I think the boys gave out their best,” said Malunguza.
Nomads coach Stuart Mbolembole conceded that it was not a stroll in the park for his team.
