Nomads vow to boycott Dedza fixture

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have said they will not fulfil their TNM Super League fixture against Salima Sugar Dedza Dynamos FC this Sunday.

In an interview yesterday, Wanderers board secretary Humphrey Mvula said this follows their failure to reach a compromise with Super League of Malawi (Sulom) to call off the match.

He said: “Our expectation was that Sulom would understand our situation in accordance to rules and regulations of the league, [that any team that contributes more than three players to the national team should be exempted from fixtures], but it would appear that we are not making any head way.

“Our stand was that since we fall under Sulom, they would facilitate the withdrawal of our seven players from the national team by, at least, noon today [yesterday], but they haven’t done that.

“So, our stand is that we’ll not fulfil the fixture.”

Meanwhile, part of the Nomads’ response to Sulom’s letter reads: “We take serious exception with Sulom’s insinuation that we are perceived to be avoiding playing a league fixture at Dedza even when we have seven (7) of our first team players with the national team. It boggles our understanding when Sulom is seen to be fighting Wanderers for no cause. We did not volunteer our players to the national team but are selected by FAM.

“We are most perturbed to realise that Sulom attaches no value to the difficulty that teams face when preparing for a fixture when a team has contributed seven (7) of its first team players to the national team.

“If this trend continues where Sulom are seen to be outright rude and impudent towards teams like Wanderers, we will not respect your role as regulators/administrators of the league, we will join all those stakeholders that are calling for the dissolution of Sulom.

“Finally, we call on FAM to discipline its renegade affiliate Sulom who are fond of bullying football teams that produce players for the national team.”

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda yesterday said all fixtures remain unchanged.

He said: “All the fixtures remain as they were released and amended. All games will be played as announced.”
