Nsanje chief pleased with plans to upgrade hospital

Senior Chief Mlolo of Nsanje District has expressed excitement with plans to upgrade Osiyana Health Centre to a community hospital to improve the delivery of services.

The plans were unveiled on Saturday when Nsanje District Council launched projects under the Reformed K5 billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in the area.

“The upgraded facility will be a relief for pregnant women who usually pay more money when they deliver at Trinity Mission Hospital,” said Mlolo.

Nsanje North legislator Francis Folley (Democratic Progressive Party) said the council prioritised Osiyana Health Centre and allocated K1.7 billion for the project.

“We are going to construct a maternity wing, radiology unit, theatre room, mortuary and paediatric ward to render services to our children,” said the legislator who is also Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology.

Nsanje district commissioner Sandram Naluso said they expect projects under CDF to be completed by March 2027.

“So far, we are expecting to receive 20 percent of the K25 billion as we have already received K1 billion for administration,” he said.

Nsanje district director of health and sanitation services Gilbert Chapweteka said upgrading the facility was the best thing for the area as it will provide several services that were not rendered previously.

Earlier, Folley inspected Osiyana Community Hospital, commissioned Monica Bridge and Makhanga Extension Planning Area staff house constructed under the World Bank-funded Regional Climate Resilience Programme
