Oh yes! Rob boy

Listen to this article

Saturday’s international friendly match between my beloved Flames and Zimbabwe’s Warriors was a big yawn and I had to switch focus to a kid aged about three who perfectly did an impression of South Africa’s Doctor Malinga’s unique dance style and the ‘Via Orlando’ hit.

At least the boy’s antics at the Covered Stand cheered my spirits other than the crap that was on offer on the turf. By the way, It was not only me, there was also a white lady who appeared to have been fascinated by the little boy’s ‘kick’ dance show than the match which was, in all fairness, a big yawn. But little boys being what they are, soon the kid was fast asleep on his mum’s lap and sadly, my show was over!

Back on the pitch, apart from a few flashes of brilliance by former Europe-based forward Robin Ngalande and a fabulous curler by Douglas ‘Chibadula’ Chirambo from a free-kick, and of course, dreadlocked Zimbabwean winger Charles Sibanda’s inventive display, there was nothing much to talk about and in my own humble analysis, the little kid who mesmerised me, was the matchmaker.

That said, it felt so good seeing Ngalande scoring his first goal for the Flames. At least boy Rob proved that he still deserves Flames consideration—that cheeky body swerve and sublime finish—all in one swift movement is what I missed from Rob boy and I leapt into the air with delight after the goal.

That said, I hope the Flames sterile performance gave Eddie, Patrick and Ernest plenty of food for thought. Otherwise, what was on show on Saturday was a big yawn— lifeless, directionless, hopeless, helpless, spiritless and joyless — and it all qualifies for a fitting description of this drab game.

On a lighter note, I had prepared bwan’noni for my good ‘ole man Bob [Comrade Robert Mugabe]. I am sure he is such a character who would fall in love with the delicacy. Unfortunately by the time I had arrived at the Warriors hotel camp in Blantyre, they had already started off. Anyway, I will give it to Madam Dumbushena. Glory be to God! Uloliwe.. uloliwe wayidudula hi..nang’esiza! [the train is pushing!]
