Peacock Enterprises Limited has increased its sponsorship for Under-20 football, netball and pool tournaments played over Christmas holidays to K500 000 (about $1 470) from K150 000 (about $441).

Peacock operations manager Germany Masautso disclosed this on Wednesday during football finals between Super Power and Zidakwa FC at Chatuwa Primary School ground.

The final, which was graced by Civo coach Thom Mkolongo, Super Power emerged champions with a 3-1 victory.

Masautso said they decided to increase the sponsorship to increase competition.

“We have seen young players being spotted by Super League teams such as Civo, Blue Eagles and Silver Strikers, so we have decided to increase the sponsorship starting from next year to enhance competition,” said Masautso.

The tournament’s organising secretary Pilirani Gadaga hailed the sponsors for the gesture. He asked the community to buy from Peacock Superette as one way of paying back to the sponsors.

As champions, Super Power received K18 000 (about $52) and a trophy whereas Zidakwa pocketed K14 500 (about $42).

In netball, champions Buffalo Sisters received K13 000 (about $38) whereas runners-up Area 12 Sisters received K8 000 (about $23).

Pool finals between FIB and Achewa will take place tomorrow at FIB. The winner will receive K18 000 (about $52) whereas the loser will get K9 000 (about $26).

President of Farmers Union of Malawi (FUM) Felix Jumbe is the owner of Peacock Enterprises Limited.
