FCB Nyasa Bullets coach Wedson Nyirenda is the FDH Bank Premiership Coach of the Month for August while Silver Strikers midfielder Zebron Kalima has scooped the Player of the Month award, it has emerged.
The accolade is Nyirenda’s second since joining the People’s Team, having also won the award in June, his first month at the club.
During the month under review for the latest award, the Zambian tactician guided Bullets through a four-match unbeaten run in which they scored eight goals without conceding.
The run saw Nyirenda beat fellow nominees Deklerk Msakakuona of Blue Eagles and Abbas Makawa of Civil Service United to the award.
In a statement on its website, Bullets attributed their coach’s success to the team’s defensive solidity and attacking prowess.
Reads the statement: “The team’s brilliant defensive solidarity and attacking efficiency distinguished his performance among nominees.”
During the period, Nyirenda steered Bullets to a 2-0 victory over Chitipa United before edging Karonga United 1-0. The league leaders then drew 0-0 with Luanar Mitundu before rounding off the month with a commanding 5-0 demolition of Silver Strikers.
Meanwhile, Kalima beat Ngese Olamba of Chitipa United, Saulosi Moyo of Civil Service United and Clever Chikwata of Creck Sporting to the Player of the Month award.
The midfielder impressed during the four matches under consideration, scoring two goals, providing an assist and winning two Player of the Match awards.
“I am excited for the recofnition and I would like to thank my teammates for their support,” he said.
Nyirenda will receive K500 000 and a miniature trophy, while Kalima will pocket K300 000 and also receive a miniature trophy.
