Old Mutual bids farewell to 6 former directors

Old Mutual Malawi Limited on Friday honoured six former directors for their contributions to the company during their tenures on the board.

The honourees are Innocentia Ottober, Rachel Mijiga, Bernard Ndau, Ambrose Mzoma, Gertrude Mzengereza and Kevin Gleeson.

Old Mutual Malawi Limited board chairperson Nkondola Uka, speaking during a farewell dinner in Blantyre themed ‘The legacy we leave’, commended the former directors for strengthening the company’s governance structures and systems to meet international standards.

He said the company’s strong financial performance is driven by effective leadership and a commitment to aligning its business objectives with the interests of key stakeholders.

Uka said the company was pursuing investments across several sectors, including agriculture, to help generate foreign exchange.

“The government has a target for us to invest at least five percent in infrastructure, with priority areas including roads and student accommodation,” he said.

In her remarks, Ottober, who was the former board chairperson, said serving on the board requires commitment to providing strategic direction and advancing the company’s interests.

“Board membership is about providing strategic direction, not just socialising,” said the private practice lawyer.

In her remarks, Mijiga said Old Mutual Malawi Limited is not only the largest financial institution, but also a strong brand that celebrates women.

She touted the company’s progressive leadership and its contributions to innovation and productivity.

Old Mutual Group has operated in Malawi since the late 1930s and opened its first office in Malawi in 1954.
