Persons with disabilities gain advocacy skills
Persons with disabilities have applauded Phalombe Youth Arms Organisation for equipping them with budget and policy advocacy skills.
They said this last week on the sidelines of an advocacy training held in the district.
In his remarks, Chisomo Lazalo, a young person living with a disability, described the training as an eye-opener.
“This training has empowered me to effectively participate in and lobby for disability-friendly budgets and policy formulation at the community and district levels,” he said.
Lazalo, who comes from Traditional Authority Nazombe, said that the skills acquired will also enable him to advocate for disability-friendly plans at the village and area levels.
“The training also equipped me with the knowledge to make informed decisions,” he said.
Malawi Council for Disability Affairs public relations officer Harriet Kachimanga commended the organisation for holding the training.
She said the skills will enable persons with disabilities to participate effectively in development activities and ensure that disability issues are mainstreamed.
“I urge the trained individuals to share their knowledge with others, promoting disability awareness and inclusivity,” said Kachimanga.
The training was aimed at equipping youths with the skills to influence policies and programmes at the community and district levels effectively.
By empowering persons with disabilities with advocacy skills, the youth organisation is promoting inclusivity and ensuring that disability issues are addressed and mainstreamed in development initiatives.
