Malawian winger Peter Banda scored his first goal of the season in the Tanzanian Premier League on Wednesday when his club Simba SC played out a one-all draw against Singida Big Stars.

But it was an afternoon of mixed fortunes for the Flames winger as he sustained an ankle injury that could keep him out for five weeks.

Banda: I was excited to score my first league goal of this season

In a video clip posted on social media after the match, the former Nyasa Big Bullets wonderkid got the ball on the left flank and run with it firmly glued to his feet before curling a sweet left foot shot into the right corner of the net.

The goal cancelled out Deus Kaseke’s 11th minute strike for Singida Big Stars.

In an interview yesterday, the 21-year-old said despite scoring, he was disappointed to get injured.

He said: “I was making a return from an injury only to get injured again. Otherwise, the game was okay and I was excited to score my first league goal this season.

“This was my third league match. I played in the first two games and then got injured.

“I am walking with the help of crutches and a pop [plaster of Paris] will be applied on my injured foot today [yesterday].”

Simba are third on the standings with 18 points from nine matches, two points short of leaders Young Africans and second-placed Azam, who are separated by goal difference.
