Pinnick walks on walter

FAM president Walter Nyamilandu yesterday failed to retain the Fifa Council post after losing to Nigerian Amaju Pinnick at the 43rd CAF elective general assembly in Rabat, Morocco.

Pinnick pulled 43 votes against Nyamilandu’s eight in a one-sided contest.

Two other contestants Zambia’s Andrew Kamanga and Nicholas Mwendwa Kithuku from Kenya withdrew.

Earlier, South African Patrice Motsepe was confirmed as the next CAF president after getting elected unopposed.

Going to the general assembly, Africa adopted a unity stance which saw three other candidates, namely Augustin Senghor, Ahmed Yahya and Jacques Anouma withdraw from the race. 

Fifa president Gianni Infantino, who was in attendance in Rabat in his remarks in the  commended the African member associates for the unity.

Motsepe, 59, an accomplished business mogul and philanthropist, also owns South Africa Premiership outfit Mamelodi Sundowns.
