Players’ association awards gala shifted
Football Players Association (FPA) has shifted the inaugural players’ awards gala to early next year due to logistical grounds.
FPA general secretary Ernest Mangani announced a few months ago that the ceremony would take place this month, but he said yesterday they have opted to do it later to have ample time for preparations, especially finalising their discussions with prospective sponsors.
“Prospective sponsors asked for more time to prepare for the event and we have obliged,” he said. “This means we will have the event between January and February 2019. We have a number of organisations that have expressed interest.”
Mangani explained that the awards will be strictly contested among the association’s registered members.
He said based on the pool of members they have, they will follow up with Super League of Malawi (Sulom) and the media on which players should be awarded.
So far, FPA has 73 registered members from TNM Super League clubs.
One of the members Precious Sambani, who plays for Be Forward Wanderers, said he has no problem with the delay as what is important is to have a colourful and historic event.
