Police arrest 3 for robbing American citizen
Police in Balaka have arrested three men for allegedly robbing an American national Brenda Trela of property worth K5.2 million.
According to Balaka Police publicist inspector Edith Kachotsa, the suspects, Gerald Banda, 30; Charles Mwale Bvuja, 28; Christopher Adam Adin, 31 and two accomplices, who are still at large, went to Bola Moyo Lodge and forced the receptionist to direct them to Trela’s room, claiming they were Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers searching for dangerous drugs at the lodge.
“The gang stormed into Trela’s room after she had responded to their “friendly” knock. Thereafter, they took a camera, laptop computer, power bank and 100 dollars. They also took away the receptionist’s cell phone on their way out,” said Kachotsa.
She said the matter was reported to Balaka police whose investigations led to the recovery of all the stolen property, except the money.
The three were arrested on Wednesday.
“It has also come to light that the suspects committed similar offences at Jenda in Mzimba, Kasungu and Mzuzu. They will appear before court to answer a robbery case,” said Kachotsa.
Banda comes from Halala Village, T/A Kuntumanje in Zomba, Mwale Bvuja hails from Mawawa Village, T/A Kaomba in Kasungu and Adin is from Mtambo Village, T/A Mthilamanja in Mulanje.
