Police in Mponela, Dowa have arrested four people in connection with a series of thefts and breaking offences.

Mponela Police Station spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino said the law enforcers also recovered electronic equipment.

“The recovered items include plasma TV screens, mobile phones, home theatres, vehicle batteries, solar panels and other valuable accessories,” he said.

Lubrino said the items were recovered through a fruitful intelligence driven exercise that was conducted during the wee hours of November 25.

All the four suspects come from the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mponela in Dowa. They are Lington John, 20; Chipiliro Chipengule Shuga, 26; Ulemu Chisale Tholomani, 19; and Maulidi Chipengule, 23.

Their arrest followed a report of a breaking incident on November 17 2020 from Asedi Bwanali, 34, of M’bobo Village,  T/A Mponela in Dowa.

Said Lubriano: “Police investigations first led to the arrest of Lington John whose arrest implicated his accomplices who upon learning that a colleague was under probe allegedly dumped some of the stolen properties within Mponela.

“The suspects have also been linked to some of the violent crimes that have been occurring in the area.”

He said the four would appear in court soon to answer breaking and theft charges.
