“We are here to ensure that every person, especially those with albinism, feel safe in their communities. The law will not spare anyone who targets these individuals including children and the elderly based on myths and superstitions,” he said.

Kumukumu also condemned mob justice and urged community members to follow proper channels after identifying crime suspects.

“I urge everyone to stop mob justice. If you suspect anyone of committing a crime, do not take the law into your own hands. Report such suspects to responsible officers or the nearest police station,” he said.

Mulanje district commissioner Chris Nawata also condemned violence against people with albinism.

“I want to assure the public that we are working tirelessly to deal with these issues and will continue to provide psycho-social support to victims within the district,” he said.

A community member, Chilungamo James from Traditional Authority Mabuka welcomed the awareness campaign, saying it will help to reduce attacks on people with albinism.

“We have learned that everyone has the right to life, including people with albinism; hence, the need to stop attacks on them,” he said.

There were sports and cultural dances to deliver messages of violence against people with albinism.
