“We have intensified patrols and will deploy officers to all political rallies, meetings and known violence hotspots to enhance visibility and ensure quick response to any incidents,” she said.

Daudi further said the police, through community policing branch, are engaging political party representatives, traditional leaders, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence and adherence to laws.

She said: “We have established standby rapid response teams led by the operations branch, ready to address any threats, violence or disruptions that may arise during campaign events.

“Our intelligence unit, which includes the Criminal Investigation Department and the Anti-Organised Crime Unit, is on high alert to monitor and analyse potential threats.”

Meanwhile, National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust in the district said it is committed to rolling out voter education activities to enlighten eligible voters on the importance of voting.

Nice Mangochi programme officer Joseph Chamambala said his office has lined up a series of outreach activities.

“We will also focus on civic education regarding the voting process to reduce the number of null and void votes, which is a recurring issue in our district,” he said.

On his part, Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace of Mangochi Diocese director of social development Father Symon Mundisiye said they are equally committed to conducting electoral awareness in the district
