Malawi Police Service (MPS) has said 24 cars were stoned during the violence that occurred after last Saturday’s TNM Super League game between Mighty Wanderers and Blue Eagles at Kamuzu Stadium.

Southern Region Police publicist Nicholas Gondwa said as of yesterday, no arrests had been made, but investigations were still under way.

“Some of the vehicles were stoned around the stadium and other surrounding areas,” said Gondwa.

Meanwhile, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has said as at noon yesterday they were yet to get reports from various stakeholders such as police, stewards, stadium owners, the two clubs, referees, match assessors and Sulom representative for necessary action on the matter.

“But we totally condemn the incident and warn others to desist from such barbaric acts. Stern action will be taken on those that will be found guilty,” said Banda.

However, referee Fransisco Scova who was in charge of the game said he was expected to submit his report by noon yesterday.

During the match, some Nomads fans invaded and threw missiles on the pitch in protest against Scova’s red-carding of their goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa.

The match was stopped for over 15 minutes as security personnel tried to restore order.

After the game, the match officials left the stadium under heavy security escort, but still some fans stoned the armoured vehicle which carried them.
