At least 10 primary schools in Lilongwe Rural are expected to benefit from a school bag donation under a K5 million project run by an advertising and consulting agency, Simply Black.

Speaking on Tuesday during a donation of 1 000 school bags at Nkhukwa Primary School in Lilongwe, Simply Black administration and operations officer Adolf Ndovi said their aim is to support children access primary school education.

“The bags are water proof which will assist pupils to keep their exercise books safe during this rainy season. We recycle flexible banners to make the bags,” he said.

Ndovi said the project will continue next year to cater for additional nine schools that will be randomly picked.

Nkhukwa Primary School head teacher Bernard Garnet thanked the team for their kind gesture.

He said the bags will inspire learners who do not take school seriously to see the benefits of education.

Said Garnet: “At this school, few learners have bags. Most learners carry their notebooks in plastic bags, but now that will be history.

“Besides, the bags will also motivate other learners to start school when the second term starts on January 3 2023.”

According to a 2019 Ministry of Education report, some learners drop out of school due to poverty.
