Puma Energy has brought smiles to the lawn tennis family after increasing sponsorship for the Malawi Open Tennis Championships slated for this weekend at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) from K2 million (about $5 000) to K5 million (about $12 500).

Puma Energy’s sales and marketing manager Joseph Chafumuka said this on Wednesday at a press briefing at the company’s head office in Blantyre.

Following the increase of the stakes, the winner’s purse in the senior men’s singles category has as well been doubled to K700 000 (about $1 750) while that of the senior women’s singles section has been increased from last year’s K175 000 (about $437) to K350 000 (about $875).

Prizes for winners in other categories have also been improved.

“Puma Energy has fallen in love with lawn tennis. We are not ending here but we are going forward. Next year, will continue the sponsorship. This is one way of saying thank you to Malawians for the support they render to our company,” he said.
