Rookies TN Stars’ Davie leads scorers’ chart
Rookies TN Stars’ forward Stain Dave leads the TNM Super League scorers’ chart with nine goals.
However, in an interview, the unheralded forward, who is playing his debut season in the top-flight league, says his priority is on helping the team to do well other than personal glory.
“It is gratifying that I am the leading scorer. It is something that I should be excited about, but to me the important thing is that as a team we should do well and remain in the league.
“I am able to score because of team work and good team spirit brings success,” said Davie.
Tomorrow, the Kasungu based side travels to Balaka to face champions Be Forward Wanderers and Davie said he is looking forward to the game.
“It will be yet another test of our pedigree as a team, but we are ready,” he said.
TN Stars are eighth in the 16-team league with 15 points from 12 games.
Civil Sporting Club’s Raphael Phiri is breathing down Davie’s neck with a eight goals while another TN Stars striker China Chirwa and Silver Strikers’ Mphatso Philemon are joint third with seven goals.
Jack Chiona (Silver), Chiukepo Msowoya (Nyasa Big Bullets) and Gastin Simkonda (Moyale Barracks) are next with six goals apiece followed by Matheews Simbeyi (Red Lions) and Luke Chima (Azam Tigers) who have scored five goals each.
Surprisingly, the top four players are not part of the national team which is struggling to score.
But Flames coach Ronny van Geneugden (RVG) recently said as long as “they keep on knocking on the door, they will be considered”.
