Rotary clubs offer free medical check-ups
Rotary clubs in Malawi have called on the general public to have free medical check-ups in Blantyre and Mzuzu before the exercise, dubbed Rotary Family Health Days, concludes this weekend.
Coordinator of the Melinda & Bill Gates Foundation-funded project, Vincent Sikelo said this today during one of the activities at Bangwe Health Centre.
The exercise, which includes Ophthaimic services, dental service, HIV/Aids testing, women’s health services, will also be carried out at Chilomoni Health Centre on Friday and Nancholi ground for Zingwangwa Health Centre in Blantyre on Saturday . The same is happening at Zolozolo and Chibavi health centres in Mzuzu until this Saturday.
“We would like to see as many people as possible benefitting from this initiative. It is important that they know their health status before things get worse,” he said.
“If they have eye problems, dental difficulties and other ailments, they should not hesitate to visit the mentioned health centres before we conclude the exercise this Saturday.”
One of the beneficiaries Fortunate Kadewere said she was happy that after being diagnosed with eye problems, she has received free medical support and glasses that will enables her to read.
“Before this initiative, I was having difficulties to read the Bible. But now things have changed for the better,” she said.
The project started in Lilongwe where the services were offered at seven health facilities. The second phase is expected in October.
