S & A Cold Storage awards staff

S & A Cold Storage in Blantyre awarded its long-serving employees on Labour Day as the company also celebrated 10 years of existence.

S & A Cold Storage, which started in 2003 and has a workforce of 348, made cash and bicycle awards to several of its employees working at its five farms in the Lower Shire and Mangochi and at an abbattoir in Blantyre.

The company’s managing director, Abida Mia, made the cash presentations ranging from K40 000 (about $95) to K48 000 (about $ and the bicycles at a party the management hosted at its Blantyre offices.

Mia said at the function: “I am aware that there are so many things we need to improve in all areas of operations. I know you and I are better persons to work together as a team to change for the better and for the benefit of the company and the future of our families.”

She said management found it befitting to honour its long serving employees on a day the country joined the rest of the world to celebrate Labour Day.

Mia said there are expansion plans, disclosing a process was under way to acquire a $2 million loan to invest into the company.

Board chairperson Mohammad Sidik Mia encouraged the employees to work hard, saying the company’s sucesss would be the success of their future.
