SA club won’t sign Singo

South African top-flight league side Lamontville Golden Arrows will not sign FCB Nyasa Bullets midfielder Yankho Singo, who trained with the club until this week, a source has confided in Weekend Nation.

The lanky defending midfielder has since returned home and has resumed training with the People’s Team.

The source said while there was interest in the player after being impressed with his performance during the 2025 Cosafa Cup, the club’s coach Manqoba Mngqithi requested that  he should travel  to Durban for further assessment.

“But he [Yankho] was not among the final list of players which the coach recommended; hence, his return home,” said the source.

Football Association of Malawi competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka also said the Betway Premiership side did not request for an international transfer.

“There is nothing in the system indicating that Arrows started the transfer process,” he said.

Bullets acting chief executive officer Albert Chigoga also confirmned the player’s return to the club.

He said: “We never confirmed Yankho’s transfer to any club. It was social media gossip throughout.

“Yankho remains a Bullets player until such a time when an opportunity for his move will come.”

Quizzed further on the reasons for his return, the Bullets boss said: “We are not providing any more details of the player’s move to any club for now.

“We will do it when it becomes necessary to do so.”

The player could not be contacted as per the club’s rules and regulations to seek its permission for an interview.

For the past couple of weeks, reports were rife both locally and in the Rainbow Nation that Singo was  on the verge of signing for Arrows and that he had been offered a two-year deal.

He has made six appearances for the Flames, establishing himself as a regular—a deep lying midfielder good at winning the ball and shielding the defence.

Bullets extended the midfielder’s contract by three years earlier this year and his return could also be a blessing in disguise for them as his absence was being felt in midfield.

This means that striker Frank Gabadinho Mhango, who recently signed for Richards Bay FC, will remain the only Malawian player in the South African flagship league.
