Former members of the Flames coaching panel at the weekend took turns to meet national soccer team coach Tom Saintfiet at his invitation to seek their views on how best to prepare for the forthcoming 2014 make-or-break World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

Among others, Saintfiet is reported to have met Kinnah Phiri, Jack Chamangwana and Ernest Mtawali separately at Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre.

A well-placed source said the coach also met FAM technical director John Kaputa and is also planning to meet former Flames assistant coach Young Chimodzi.

“On Friday, he had separate meetings with Kinnah, Ernest and Jack to seek their technical advice on how best to prepare for Nigeria,” said the source.

Kinnah, who travelled all the way from Mzuzu for the meeting, could not be reached for his comment yesterday, but Chamangwana and Mtawali confirmed having met the coach.

Said Chamangwana: “He just wanted some input on how best to prepare for Nigeria. We discussed a variety of issues that were centred on the team’s preparations and wanted to find out if there was anything that we could assist him in terms of technical advice.”
