Saka, Mangwana shine in TNM Golf
Spirited performance from Yotamu Saka and Beatrice Mangwana saw them win TNM plc Golf Tournament on Saturday at Mulanje Golf Club.
Played on individual stableford format, the men’s section was a tight contest that saw Saka registering 37 points to pip runner-up Nestor Msowoya and third-placed Lester Tandwe by a point. The two were separated by a count back.
A birdie on hole four was the centrepiece of Saka’s triumph which saw him finish the front nine with 23 points.
“I was relaxed and calm and when I got that birdie, I knew that this could be it,” said Saka who is also Country Club Limbe golf captain.
The ladies’ category was also a cut-throat affair as Mangwana counted out Cathy Matura after tying on 32 points.
For their feat, the champions each received a trophy, TNM@home, LTE outdoor unit, a smartphone and 20GB data.
But it was seniors’ category winner James Chimwaza who stole the limelight as he registered the highest score—38 points.
Hariet Mariani was the TNM internal category winner with 32 points. Msowoya had the longest drive in the men’s category while Jeong-Ok-Yoo did it in women’s section. Gift Gondwe was nearest to the pin.
The integrated technology and mobile phone network operator’s chief sales and marketing officer Daniel Makata said the tournament was organised to showcase their contract packages for personal and business customers.
“TNM contract is a full-packaged offering that enhances user experience by providing incentives for voice, data and unparalleled connectivity to our high speed and reliable internet.
“Our return to Mulanje Golf Club underscores the commitment we have towards golf,” he said.
Makata also said they were impressed with the 74 strong-field.
TNM presented a K250 000 cheque for the maintenance of the greens.
The club’s board member Jim Merlose thanked TNM for its continued support, saying the bi-annual tournament features highly on their calendar.
