Scottish NGO donates to disabled children in Mulanje

A Scotland-based non-governmental organization (NGO) Female Education Empowerment Center (Feec) last week donated assorted items including clothes and Likuni phala to Mendulo Parish Center for disabled children in Mulanje.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony Feec’s founder, Charles Fawcert, observed that most physically challenged children in the country fail to access basic needs such as education, health and food due to discrimination, among others.

“Sometimes it is difficult to deal with disabled children within the families and communities. When they seek health services due to their different medical conditions people say the sickness is associated with the disability, and most parents lock their kids indoors as they feel it is a punishment from God,” he said.

Mendulo Parish priest, Father Forcas Chikweya thanked the organisation for the gesture.

“We need to embrace a spirit of supporting people with disabilities,” said Chikweya.

Currently the centre has 442 children who operate from their respective homes.
