Attributed his teams good run in the TNM Super League to his faith in young players: Mpulula

Azam Tigers coach Leo Mpulula has attributed his team’s satisfactory run in the TNM Super League to his faith in young players.

Tigers are yet to taste defeat and they are yet to concede a goal.

Mpulula was giving meaning to his team’s remarkable run so far this season.

“The secret is that I don not believe in recycled players and old guard.

“I try to groom my own players and I insist on discipline and good team spirit,” he said.

He added that the problem is that in Malawi, coaches stick to the same old players, arguing that will take the country nowhere.

Tigers are on fifth position with 13 points from seven games, four short of current leaders Blue Eagles, who, however, have played a game more.

Other teams yet to taste defeat are Red Lions, who are fourth and seven-placed Silver Strikers.

Tigers general secretary Geoff Kachale attributed the fine run to good team-spirit and commitment from all stakeholders.

“It is not easy considering that our players were involed in a serious road accident that left a number of them injured,” said Kachale.

  1. I agree with the boss that secret lies in young players and that the Flames stick to the old and recycled players who have just their names in the football sector. Malawi should not lag behind in soccer and I blame the media for exaggerating the performance of players. There is talent in teenage boys.
