Set your standards high—Chakwera

President Lazarus Chakwera has urged newly graduating students of the University of Malawi (Unima) to raise the standards of the university by unleashing the capacity to unlock the doors of opportunity for
themselves and for the nation.

Chakwera said this as he presided over the awarding of certificates, diplomas and degrees to students at the Great Hall of the University of Malawi, Chancellor College in Zomba.

“I invite you to think about what you will each do not only to represent that standard when you leave from here but also to give back to this institution so that the standard continues to rise. The personal success stories you will each write as a result of this education is but a microcosm of the national success. we are part of together, and so we must each do our part,” Chakwera said.

The President further appealed to the graduands to draw inspiration from other countries.

He said: “If countries without many natural resources like Israel, South Korea, Japan and Singapore, have become the envy of the world through education, so can we. If they were able to quickly recognize that what they lacked in natural resources could easily be compensated for by good ideas and intellectual capital, so can we.”

Chakwera further urged the University to invest in greater innovations in line with the Covid-19 pandemic.

He expressed satisfaction with the Unima delinking process urging all the three upcoming universities to operate at the highest standards of education.
