Silver Strikers Football Club have said they are awaiting a determination by their disciplinary committee on the future of their coach Pieter de Jongh.

The Dutch coach appeared before the disciplinary committee on Friday to explain his decision to demand over K500 million in compensation for alleged breach of contract by the club.

Among others, the outspoken coach accused the Central Bankers of not paying his medical and car insurances as well as rentals over a period.

In an interview yesterday, Silver chief executive officer Patrick Chimimba said: “The disciplinary committee met on Friday afternoon and as a club we are waiting for a determination from them.

“An indication of when the determination will be out was not provided, but looking at the urgency of the matter, it should be soon.”

On his part, De Jongh, who is on holiday in Kenya, said: “With regards the meeting, I believe the board are in a much-better position to provide an update, just as they did when they updated the public about the meeting last week.”

De Jongh: The board is in a better position

A fortnight ago, the club said their technical committee would review the performance of all its teams’ coaches, including De Jongh before determining their future.

De Jongh, who  was hired on a two-year contract in March last year, was given a target to win the TNM Super League title and at least two cups in his first season, but Silver finished as runners-up in the league as well as Ibongetse Castel Challenge Cup.

They were losing semi-finalists in Zamadolo Airtel Top 8 and failed to make it past the round of 16 in FDH Bank Cup.

But the coach argued that he failed to meet the set targets because, among other things, the club did not sign players he recommended.
