Mulhako wa Alhomwe board censures Lhomwe chiefs

The Mulhako wa Alhomwe board of trustees has advised its membership to follow proper procedures when voicing out their concerns.

The appeal follows reservations raised by a section of Lhomwe chiefs from Phalombe, Mulanje, Zomba, Blantyre and Thyolo on the elevation of Senior Chief Kaduya of Phalombe as Paramount Chief by President Lazarus Chakwera.

During a press briefing last week, the concerned  chiefs said they do not recognise the new paramount chief’s authority, owing to her mang’anja heritage.

But the Mulhako wa Alhomwe executive board secretary Muchanakwaye Mpuluka urged the membership to exercise maturity in raising their issues and follow laid down procedures that the establishment stands for.

“We should avoid portraying ourselves as having interests beyond this establishment. Mulhako wa Alhomwe is neither a religious nor a political organisation. Chief Kaduya was appointed in that acting capacity in 2021, why all this fuss today?” he said.

Mpuluka said if the chiefs have any issues with Chief Kaduya’s elevation, they should approach the leadership of Mulhako wa Alhomwe rather than taking their issues to the media.

Senior Chief Kaduya was oficially  elevated to the status of Paramount Chief on Thursday last week during an event which took place in Phalombe District.
