Songwe’s Ngosi shines despite heavy defeat
Rookies Songwe Border United may have faced a 7-0 humiliation at the hands of FCB Nyasa Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday, but the Karonga-based side’s winger Lewa Ngosi won the hearts of the fans following his stellar show.

The fans, most of them Bullets followers, gave him a standing ovation with some of them calling him to the open stands to give him cash.
He was a marvel to watch with his short bursts, cheeky body swerves and telling passes on the flanks as the fans watched starry eyed.
The 23-year-old, who was making his debut in the TNM Super League, said despite the loss, they are determined to turn the corner.
“I am happy with the reception from the fans, it is a big motivation as we look forward to the upcoming games,” he said.
“Being a new team in the top league, we are still learning the ropes, but after this defeat, we’ll pick ourselves up and, hopefully come back stronger.”
He was not the man-of-the-match as the accolade was given to Wongani Lungu, but he still had every reason to smile in the end.
Bullets coach Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda also hailed the player as a gem.
“He is a good player with a bright future. His touches and movements stood out,” he said.
Songwe general secretary Palisha Swira said they signed the player from Nkhata Bay-based Northern Region Football Association Premier Division side Chintheche United.
“The boy gave us a tough time during the final of the North Top 4 Bonanza which we lost 2-0 and we just had to lure him to join us,” he said.
“Actually, he only trained with us twice ahead of our trip to Lilongwe to face Blue Eagles and his registration was only finalised at half-time, so he couldn’t feature.
“So, Saturday’s match against Bullets was his first-ever Super League match.”
Songwe Bordcer anchor the top-flight with no point from three matches. Apart from Bullets, they also lost 4-0 to Blue Eagles and 0-1 to Moyaled Barracks.
