SRFL kick-off date not known

The Southern Region Football League (SRFL) has said it has not yet agreed on the kick-off date for next season, a situation that has put teams in dilemma.

SRFL vice-general secretary Kingsley Simbeye said the executive committee is yet to discuss the kick-off date and other crucial issues such as the future of the league and last season’s sponsorship.

“I would say the reason we were not planning was the issue of amalgamation of the committees as we were not aware as to who would be in charge.

“But it is indeed an urgent matter that requires immediate attention because already the Super League is in its sixth week. Nevertheless, we have asked teams to start registering,” said Simbeye.

He added that there are also other pressing issues surrounding their sponsorship that need to be looked into following the expiry of the three-year deal with Peter Mutharika.

“As at now, we have no sponsor because the one we had has since expired,” said Simbeye.

Meanwhile, the Northern Region Football League (NRFL) chairperson Alfred Gunda has said the league will start in two weeks’ time.

He attributed the prize presentation ceremony delay to logistical challenges.

However, Gunda said the sponsor Bishop Simama was ready to do it last week, but it was put on hold as a precautionary measure due to last week’s tripartite elections.
