Hundreds of students from Nyambadwe Community Day Secondary School, Michiru View and HHI secondary schools Saturday last week gathered at St Michael and All Angels CCAP Church in Blantyre for a day-long revival service.

The service was organised to revolutionise spirituality among students in the targeted schools.

One of the organisers, Davie Kanjere, said they wanted to purge the students of hypocrisy although most of them claim to be born-again Christians.

Kanjere, a Form Four student at HHI, said it is sad that there are believers who have adopted the ‘born-again’ label as a badge for achieving selfish motives.

“I can assure you that most students claim to be born-again Christians, yet their actions and behaviour suggest otherwise,” he said.

Kanjere said in some instances students have caused a lot of grief and pain to their parents, arguing that this suggests their declaration of being born again is merely to deceive people.

“At the end of this service, our desire is to see real change in the students. We need to be exemplary by portraying good behaviour so that our siblings can learn from us,” he said.

Gospel music and drama took centre stage during the service while Blantyre CCAP Synod education secretary, Moses Kasitomu, and preacher Lyson Mavutula delivered inspirational talks to the students.

The service was funded by contributions from the students themselves.
