Sulom Congress shifted to next year

The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has shifted its annual general meeting (AGM), which it was supposed to hold this year, to early 2014.

In a telephone interview on Wednesday, Sulom president Innocent Bottomani said they have valid reasons for not holding the annual AGM as required by their constitution.

“Since we embraced the harmonised calendar this year, there has been congestion of activities and events which have affected our planning.

“In addition to that, we are owed a lot of money by clubs who are yet to finish paying affiliation fees. We need to have enough funds to finance the AGM,” said Bottomani.

“But we promise to hold our congress in early 2014, before the next season kicks off. We hope our affiliates will understand that position. It is not deliberate,” he said.

Silver Strikers have said they understand Sulom’s predicament.

“Holding an AGM requires thorough preparations. We are comfortable with next year as long as it is before the start off of the season,” said Silver general secretary Mike Tembo.

He, however, advised Sulom to desist the habit of postponing such important meetings.

“The AGM is a must since it is where issues affecting the league are discussed. It is also a forum where affiliates get to hear the performance of Sulom and make recommendations,” said Tembo.
