Tabitha’s goal ends Bayern’ sun beaten home run
France-based Malawian women’s football sensation Tabitha Chawinga drew first blood as her club Olympique Lyon ended German giants Bayern Munich’s 11-match unbeaten home run in the Uefa Women’s Champions League on Tuesday.
It was the first goal for the Scorchers captain in the tournament since joining Lyon last year.

Lyon, who won all six of their group stage matches, will go into the second leg with a spring in their step.
Defeated in last year’s final by Barcelona, the French side took the lead in the 35th minute when Tabitha scored with a powerful left-footed drive after pouncing on a poor clearance from Linda Sembrant.
According to BBC, Lyon had a chance to double their lead in first-half injury time, but Lindsay Heaps’ penalty was saved by Bayern goalkeeper Maria-Luisa Grohs.
Haitian star Melchie Dumornay gave Lyon breathing space with the team’s second goal after 65 minutes for her fourth goal in this season’s tournament.
In an interview yesterday, Tabitha said the win was vital as it gives them an advantage going into the second leg.
“Of course, it is not over yet, but the victory gives us confidence going into the return leg,” she said.
Commenting on the significance of her goal, the 28-year-old attacker said: “I was excited to score my first Champions League goal for Lyon and, hopefully, many more will come.
“I thank God for His continued blessings , now we have to switch focus to the return leg.”
The eight-time winners will look to finish the job in France in the second leg next Wednesday.
