Temwa scores in 3rd successive match
USA-based Malawian women’s football sensation Temwa Chawinga continues to hog the limelight in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) as she is joint leading scorer.
The 26-year-old opened the scoring for her team Kansas City (KC) Current when they beat Utah Royals 3-0 yesterday to take her goal tally to three as she stepped up her golden boot defence campaign.

She was the top scorer in her debut season with a record 20 goals in which she was also named the Most Valuable Player.
The goal also saw her equal her eight-match scoring record she set last season.
In highlights monitored on KC Current television, the Scorchers forward drew first blood from close range.
She is now the joint leading scorer alongside Ashley Hatch of Washington Spirit.
KC Current are second in the 14-team league with nine points after three straight wins. They are tied on points with leaders and defending champions Orlando Pride, who have a better goal difference.
“We were happy with the second half because we were able to manage the game properly and not give up a goal,” KC Current coach Vlatko Andonovski was quoted as saying after the match.
“We just wanted to make sure that we attacked a little bit smarter and didn’t give them any chances or any opportunities. I thought as a team we showed maturity.’”
For the second year in a row, KC Current have started the season with three wins. “We have eight goals in three games,” added the coach: “We only conceded once in three games. I mean, that’s something that we’re happy with. And hopefully we can continue doing well going forward.”
Temwa was not available for comment yesterday.
