Sulom comes out of its shell
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has come out of its shell and admitted that there were some hiccups that have led to the delay of the 2024 TNM Super League prize money.
Almost 100 days after the conclusion of the top-flight league, teams and individual awardees are yet to get their prizes.

Even after hosting the prize presentation ceremony 10 days ago, the prize money is yet to be released.
But in an interview on Friday, Sulom vice-president Ronald Chiwaula said: “There were some hiccups. So, the sponsors could not release the funds.
“We are just waiting for the sponsor to transfer the funds before we give it to the teams.”
Quizzed if the teams are assured of getting the money before the 2025 season kicks off, he said: “Definitely, they will have received their money by that time.”
Champions Silver Strikers’ chief executive officer Patrick Chimimba said in an interview that having exhausted all avenues in pushing for the prize money, all they can do now is wait.
He said: “There is still nothing. Follow-ups have proven futile and we find it very unfair because the longer it takes, the value won’t be the same.
“The 2025 season is starting this Saturday and we still haven’t received prize money, that’s the unfortunate situation we find ourselves in.”
His Mighty Wanderers counterpart Panganeni Ndovi said: “We have not received any proof of payment from them. We are still waiting.”
Last month, TNM plc brand and communications manager Limbani Nsapato attributed the delay to their crammed diary, saying: “It has been an issue of finding time. Nothing else.”
As champions, the Bankers are expected to get K100 million, their runners-up Wanderers will get K40 million while FCB Nyasa Bullets, who finished third, will receive K30 million.
There are also individual prizes, including Player of the Season George Chikooka of Silver Strikers set to get K3 million, golden boot winner Isaac Kaliyati of Wanderers getting K2 million.
