Tendai Shaba tackles mental health in poem
With growing misconceptions about mental health issues in the country, poet Tendai Shaba has released a new poem titled The Standard Of Excellence to clear the air.
In an interview, Shaba said the poem marks the beginning of his poetry journey in the New Year.
“For me this is also a continuation of my mental health and personal development poetry. It is important for us as individuals to acknowledge our mental health and work on growing ourselves mentally,” he said.
The poet said there is still need for more awareness on matters of mental health.
“I know these are difficult times and I urge people to continue working on their dreams, plans, ideas and expectations even in these difficult times,” said Shaba.
The Standard of Excellence is not Shaba’s first poem on mental health issues. The other is titled Check on Me.
In part the new poem reads: “I have my worries,
I have my doubts
Check on me
Once in a while
Just so I can remember
What it means to have you as my friend…”
On the launch of his debut poetry book titled Moments to Cherish, Shaba said he is still promoting the book ahead of its launch which might be virtual due to the Covid-19 situation.
Apart from poetry, Shaba also runs a website tendaishaba.com which uses poetry as a tool for personal growth and development.
