The Story Workshop touts project to improve hygiene
The Story Workshop Education Trust says its Community Connect project will improve sanitation and hygiene in Salima District.
Speaking on Monday after introducing the project to Salima District Executive Committee, The Story Workshop district project officer Phyllis Chingana said they will use community engagement to meet their goals.
“The project will reduce the fatality rate and spread of cholera and other waterborne diseases through provision of timely and accurate information that will address misinformation, myths and rumours people speculate in communities,” she said.
Chingona said the project is complementing government’s efforts to address problems in water, sanitation and hygiene (Wash), nutrition and health.
“The project targets 100 000 households and it will be implemented in collaboration with government ministries, departments and agencies, including ministries of Health and Education as well as district information office,” he said.
Salima District Council director of administration Yohane Bilesi said the initiative is good as it will equip people with the right information on how to prevent and treat diseases.
Funded by Unicef, the project is expected to be implemented within six months from June to November 2023.
