TNM in partnership to fight hunger through technology
TNM plc has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Agricultural Commodity Exchange (ACE) and Welthungerhilfe to enhance food security through application of technology in the agriculture sector.
Speaking during the signing of the MoU in Lilongwe on Thursday, TNM plc acting chief executive officer Lloyd Gowera said the overall objective of the partnership is to promote Zaulimi App in Malawi and establish it as an effective tool for fighting hunger, climate change and improving economic lives of farmers.

“We are integrating with two organisations that have a common goal of ensuring sustainability of the agriculture sector as it continues to contribute positively towards the economy,” he said.
Gowera said the partnership will ensure sustainability of the agriculture sector and add value to its status as the backbone of the country’s economy.
“At TNM plc, we appreciate the value that agriculture contributes to the overall economy; hence, our keenness to support initiatives earmarked to develop the sector,” he said.
Gowera said in the partnership, the Malawi Stock Exchange-listed TNM plc is implementing zero-rate Zaulimi App on its network to enable farmers access the App without incurring any Internet charges.
ACE chief executive officer Kristian Moller said the innovation is critical to value- added agriculture, adding that farmers are equipped with modern ways of production.
He said: “Through Zaulimi App, we are providing relevant support and skills required by farmers who want to build or take their farming productivity to the next level.
“In addition, we are giving farmers relevant information to help them become large-scale and meaningful enterprises.”
Welthungerhilfe deputy head of project Amos Ambali thanked TNM plc for joining the fight to eradicate hunger through technology.
“As an organisation, we are working on the eradication of hunger. With this kind of vision, we are looking at the production side,” he said.
Zaulimi App was developed by ACE and Welthungerhilfe to fill the existing gap due to the inadequate extension officers in Agriculture.
The App provides farmers and extension workers with information on agriculture production and marketing.
