Tvents come to Mubas student Grivin’s rescue
Tvents Consultants has offered to provide free English and public speaking lessons to the Malawi Univesirty of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas) first year business communication student Grivin Black.
This follows his failure to communicate in English during a public lecture that Minister of Trade and Industry Vitumbiko Mumba conducted at Comesa Hall in Blantyre last week. The student’s poor English generated widespread ridicule on social media with many questioning his aptitude as a university student.

Tvents Consultants director Chisomo Mwamadi said they want to change his mindset by showing that he did not fail and offer him a springboard to unleash his potential in public speaking.
He said: “A lot of people ridiculed him because of the manner he delivered his question during the public lecture. A lot of things were said to shame him. The convener Vitumbiko Mumba saw that and realised the guy needed help and offered to meet him.
“I looked at it and thought there is also a part I can play because the part he struggled with is one I know best which is English and public speaking. So, I thought of coming in and empower him.”
Mwamadi has since met Black and the two have agreed on the schedule of lessons. Mwamadi said they will first go through the basics of English speaking and then venture into public speaking.
In a separate interview, Grivin said he was grateful for the offer, saying the skills will help him academically.
“As a communication student, I cannot run away from this as it will help shape my career,” he said.
