UK conglomerate to explore investment prospects in Malawi

A United Kingdom-based privately owned conglomerate, Freshwater Group of Companies (FWGC), is scheduled to visit Malawi from December 3 to 9 2013 to explore investment opportunities available.

The multinational corporation with a broad range of investments and divisions covering energy, infrastructure, finance, commodities, real estate and tourism aims to identify the relevant projects before working on the necessary structures, according to the Malawi Trade and Investment Centre (Mitc) statement issued by its public relation’s manager Deliby Nyale.

“Freshwater’s executive team is visiting Malawi with the express aim of looking at projects in the fields of energy, infrastructure, finance and tourism,” said Nyale on Tuesday.

The company’s intention to explore Malawi’s business opportunities comes at a time when the country has the intensified search for increased inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) which is key to creating more jobs and growing the economy in the process.

Nyale explained that the delegation from Freshwater intends to hold discussions with government ministries, departments and all relevant stakeholders in the above sectors on possible investment ventures.

According to Nyale, one of Freshwater’s core decisions is that from any profits derived in a particular location, 10 percent of the profits is donated to charitable causes.

Quoting the company’s chief executive officer Rach, it says Freshwater is very excited by the potential opportunities in Malawi.

“Malawi is close to my heart and I am full of optimism both for our investment plans for Malawi,” said Rach.

Today, the group has grown to operate globally from its London headquarters through its regional offices in Dubai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Manama, Moscow, Mumbai, New York, Riyadh, Rotterdam and Toronto.
