UMP Festival Mangochi bound

This year’s Urban Music People (UMP) Festival titled The Evolution will take place at Cape Maclear in Mangochi from Friday to Monday next week.

Speaking at a press briefing in Blantyre on Friday, UMP Festival and Chitoliro Productions director Ken Zizwa Limwame said this year’s event celebrates urban culture, music, art and entertainment.

He said: “UMP Festival is a 360-degree event encompassing music, fashion, arts, sports and tourism.

“It aims to celebrate urban culture, the potential of Lake Malawi and promote creative economy sectors.”

During the press briefing, it was revealed that the four-day extravaganza will feature an impressive line-up of over 30 international acts, including Magixx from Nigeria, Sir Trill from South Africa and Deep London, alongside 40 local artists.

The Matafale Site, dedicated to reggae legend Evison Matafale, will host performances by renowned reggae artists while the festival’s sports component will feature various tournaments, including beach volleyball, female beach soccer, arm wrestling and American football.

Organisers unveiled renowned footballer Robin Ngalande as the festival’s sports ambassador. .

Ngalande hailed the appointment.

“To be chosen for this role is humbling, especially considering they could have approached others,” he said.

The festival will span across seven sites such as The Matafale Site for reggae performances, Chitoliro Site for main stage events, Fashion Site for Fashion Showcases, Miss UMP pageant, Family Site for Family-Friendly Activities, VVIP Site for exclusive experiences and Fat Monkeys for arts and exhibitions.
