Universal Chemicals Golf ends Hara title drought

Sweet-swinging Sangwani Hara heaved a sigh of relief on Sunday when he ended his one-year title drought with a triumph in the inaugural Universal Chemicals and Suppliers Golf Tournament at Thyolo Sports Club (TSC).

Within a year, the handicap (h/c) 16 golfer participated in at least 10, competitions but the window of success finally opened after he counted out TSC golf captain Rajeev Rawat (h/c14) to second place with 44 individual stablefold points. Ajay Singh finished third with 37 points after counting out Bobby Singh to fourth.

Swinging with precision, Hara stamped his authority on the 23-golfer field with four birdies on the first, fifth, 10th and 14th holes.

“It feels great to finally win a competition after such a long time. It is a big relief to become the inaugural champion of this tournament and, if it returns next year, I will try my best to defend the crown,” said the champion, who amassed 20 points on the front-nine and 24 on the back.

Universal Chemicals and Suppliers Limited managing director Kamlesh Patel said they organised the tournament to appreciate the support the agro-chemical distribution company gets from tea, macadamia and coffee estates.

He added that as the sole distributor of Bayer Crop Science, Basf, Metson, Cropchem, Avima and Excel Crop Care products in the country, they will be hosting the tournament annually to interact with the golfers, who are also their customers.

“There is a saying ‘anything can wait but not agriculture’. To obtain a good yield, one has to do the right operations at the right time and plant protection is the major activity. Our motto is serve the agriculture sector and our task is to import high-quality agro-chemicals and deliver them to the farming community at reasonable cost,” he said.
