Malawi National Cricket Team captain Sami Sohail has been retained by US Minor League side Chicago Tigers for the new season’s which batted off yesterday.
In an interview yesterday, the 24-year-old batsman said he is excited with the new deal.
He said: “I am incredibly honoured and excited to be retained by Chicago Tigers in the Minor League for 2026 season which begins on the 18th September.
“Competing in the Minor League is a fantastic opportunity to test my skills against top-tier talent across USA. This achievement is a dream come true and it would not have been possible without the incredible support from Cricket Malawi.”
The Malawian star cricketer thanked coaches, his family, friends, and well-wishers who have supported his cricket journey.
“I appreciate the support and I hope to get the same support and prayers I have been getting. I look forward to giving my absolute best on the field to help my team win.
Proudly Malawian, always aiming for greater heights for our beautiful flag!” he said.
Sohail, an all-rounder, has made headlines globally for his exceptional statistical records in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
He holds a Guinness World Record for achieving the highest batting average in men’s T20I cricket, peaking at an average of 72.50.
Sohail became the first Malawian cricketer to secure a professional deal when he signed for a United Kingdom side Eckingtone Cricket Club in 2023.
