US Embassy awards scholarships to 4 Malawians
United States of America (US) Ambassador Virginia Palmer yesterday announced that three Malawians have been selected to receive Fulbright grants to pursue master’s degrees in the US starting in the 2017-18 academic year.
She said the awardees are not only academically outstanding, but also truly committed to the continued development of their country.
“I wish them all the best in their studies in the United States and look forward to the impact they will continue to have in Malawi when they return home,” she said.
Apart from the three, one Malawian will also pursue a professional development programme in the US under the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Programme. .
According to a statement the US Embassy Public Affairs Section released yesterday, the three Malawians to purse master’s degree studies are Jean Kayira, assistant registrar at the High Court in Zomba; Lombola Lombola, a Blantyre-based entrepreneur and Joyce Chivunga, a lecturer at Malawi University of Science and Technology (Must). High Court judge Fiona Mwale will pursue a professional development programme.
To date, over 100 Malawians have participated in the two programmes.
