UTM Party has reinstated its regional secretary (North-North) Jane Mbale who was suspended in April last year for allegedly using a party vehicle to aid illegal immigrants.

In a letter dated December 12 2023 from the party’s disciplinary committee chairperson Willet Kalonga and copied to UTM Party secretary general Patricia Kaliati, regional governor (North) Moses Mlenga and administrative secretary Andrew Mtendere, it says the reinstatement is with immediate effect.

The letter reads in part: “It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the party has lifted your suspension from your position as regional secretary, North-North with immediate effect.

“This follows information we have received from Karonga Magistrate’s Court that you have no case to answer that you aided illegal immigrants to enter the country using UTM Party vehicle. Accordingly, you are advised to report to the regional governor, North-North, Moses Mlenga.”

In an interview, Mbale said she was vindicated and was pleased to be back and pledged to work hard to help the party succeed in the 2025 general elections.

“I am pleased to work for party as you know that the region has now been divided into South-North and North-North,” she said.

In a separate interview, UTM Party national publicity secretary Felix Njalawa confirmed Mbale’s reinstatement, saying the development follows the outcome of the case which she was answering in court.

“Assets are made available based on availability and need,” said Njawala.

The North-North region comprises Rumphi, Karonga and Chitipa districts.
