If I were

Vasco Kachipapa

General Secretary of the Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP) Nkhoma Synod, I would step down alongside the entire leadership in the wake of revelations of the K62 million fraud that has hit the synod.

If I were the Nkhoma Synod GS, I would realise that admitting that the mess is a shame to the church and the consequent suspension of 21 reverends is not enough because the leadership should have been the first to shoulder the blame.

Yes, while I would argue that  someone else headed the project, I would realise that I and the rest of the leadership had an obligation to ensure the money was handled in a transparent and accountable manner.

If only I were Reverend Kachipapa, I would realise that it is not fair for the synod leadership to detach itself from the mess and shift the blame to those that were directly involved.

I would further realise that for a synod that is known to be critical on various issues, it will be difficult for the nation to take it seriously when it speaks out on critical issues.

I would appreciate, if I were Rev. Kachipapa, that when Cashgate extends to the Church, an institution that is supposed to uphold high moral standards, then there is need for deliverance kuti chiwanda chichoke!

That is if only I were Rev. Kachipapa and the entire Nkhoma Synod leadership. Unfortunately, the highest position I have held in a church is zonal committee member.
