Sets of gym equipment donated to Malawi by World Weightlifting Federation (WWF) 12 months ago has finally arrived in the country from Kenya.

Sports Council has lived up to its promise last month to intervene and bring the equipment following a request from the Weightlifting Association of Malawi (WAM).

The four sets of equipment were ferried from Kenya in a 35-tonne truck that arrived in Lilongwe on Wednesday.

WAM president Richard Kuwali said the equipment is already in Blantyre.

“It is high standard gym equipment. We are grateful to the Kenyan Weightlifting Federation for taking good care of the equipment for over a year,” said Kuwali.

He said his association is indebted to Sports Council executive secretary George Jana for fulfilling the pledge to bring home the equipment.

“It was expensive to bring the equipment home, but they managed. We now can proceed with our programmes to host tournaments,” said Kuwali.

Jana confirmed the arrival of the equipment, which he said cost government K1.7 million (about $4 250).
