Simama Northern Region Football League (NRFL) Premier Division side Nkhata Bay Police continue to be the breeding ground for Super League sides.

After producing the league’s top scorer Lot Kasambara, who has signed for Kamuzu Barracks, their other top striker Fiskani Chimaliro and John Manda are set to sign for Civo United.

In the recent past, Nkhata Bay Police has produced such big-names players as Frank and John ‘CJ’ Banda, Seba Mhone, Lazarus Chirwa and Luka Milanzi.

Civo coach Thom Mkolongo confirmed yesterday that Chimaliro and Manda are on trials at his club.

“They are still under assessment. I cannot say whether they will be signed or not, but they are promising players,” said Mkolongo.

Civo has been known for grooming unknown talent into big-name players such as James Makoloni, the late Peter Amosi and Thula Chibambo, Austin Nyondo, Andrew ‘Aluki’ Chikhosi, Chikondi Banda and Joseph Kamwendo.

Mkolongo has since played down the exodus of key players including international defenders John Lanjesi and Pilira Makupe who are set to join Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers respectively. Others who have left the team are Dan Katunga and Chawanangwa Kawonga, who are also linked with a move to Silver.

“We will be affected in some way, but we are in the process of replacing them. In defence, we are ok, but we have to strengthen our attacking machinery,” said Mkolongo.

Civo are second from the bottom of the TNM Super League with no point from two games, having lost both games at home to Silver and Moyale.
